Fuel Market Update 3-17-2026

Early bird gets the worm.

You may have noticed fuel prices moving quickly, both at the gas pump and in the news. Global events can have a rapid impact on energy markets, especially when they affect major oil shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, where a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes each day. When disruptions or uncertainty occur in areas like this, prices can change very quickly.

One thing many people don’t realize is that our suppliers adjust their price (our cost) based on the market.   During rising markets, those changes can occur multiple times in a single day. We are not price gouging as we don’t have product locked in at a fixed rate—our costs rise and fall in real time with the market.

There is sometimes a perception that fuel companies benefit when prices rise. The truth is we hate high prices. Our costs increase, and as members of the same community where we deliver, we never want to see our friends and neighbors facing higher costs for energy, food, and everyday necessities.

First and foremost, we never schedule deliveries based on price movements. Our delivery schedule is generated using forecasting software that looks at past usage and weather conditions to help ensure automatic customers never run out of oil. Our priority is always keeping your home supplied safely and reliably.

During times like this, our focus remains the same as it has always been:

  • Reliable deliveries.
  • Responsible pricing based on actual wholesale costs.
  • Taking care of the customers and communities we serve.

Even though we are a small, family-owned company, we operate with careful planning and a long-term mindset. We do not speculate or take unnecessary risks — our goal is simply to provide dependable service to the customers who trust us.

Energy markets can be unpredictable, but our commitment to our customers is not.

We truly appreciate the trust you place in us, and we are grateful for the many years many of you have been with us.

Warm regards,

Hometown Oil
